Commute Smackdown-HNTB

smackdown page header for web

Are you ready to prove, once and for all, that you have what it takes to ditch your car and be a savvy multi-modal commuter? Are you ready to claim the title of savviest commuter for all to see?

How to Play:

1. Write your name on the game board and your distance multiplier^ [distance from your house to work one-way ex. Lauren 2.3 miles] Decide which mode you want to try first. Download the sheet for that  mode below (walk, bike, bus, train, carpool). You can compete using as many modes as you want.

2. Start completing each action, be sure to give yourself a star on the game board each time you do something.

3. You can commute using as many modes as you want, as many days as you can (you’ll really rack up the points that way!) ***However, if you ride your bike into work 3 days in one week, you only get a star for the 3 day action, not both the 1 day and the 3 day. If you mark both during a week, only the action with the most points will be counted.

4. Actions that have a star (*) can only be counted once per game.

5. Combining modes: If you use multiple modes to get into work, be sure to count them all!

**Important Clarification**: You can commute using as many modes as you want, as many days as you can (you’ll really rack up the points that way!) ***However, if you ride your bike into work 3 days in one week, you only get a star for the 3 day action, not both the 1 day and the 3 day. If you mark both during a week, only the action with the most points will be counted.

^How the Multiplier works

If your commute is 3.1 miles one way, at the end of the game, your total score will be multiplied by 1.5. This is to level the playing field for those who live farther away.

  • > 1 mile, none
  • 1.1-3 miles, 1.25
  • 3.1-5 miles, 1.5
  • 5.1-7 miles 1.75
  • 7.1-10 miles 2.0
  • 10.1 + 2.25
