We’re thrilled to welcome John Kennedy on board with the Downtown Austin Alliance and Movability Austin. John is the Alliance’s Vice President of Mobility and will be managing Movability Austin. In that role he will lead transportation strategies, programs, and initiatives to advance multimodal solutions for Downtown Austin and the greater region. He is also working with the Alliance’s mobility leadership committee, which advises on the potential development of new mobility programs, partnerships, and advocacy initiatives.
John is a Central Texas native, but is returning to Austin after working in Washington, D.C. While there, he served as Director of the Mid-Atlantic Gateway for the U.S. Maritime Administration, Senior Policy Analyst for the Office of the Secretary of Transportation, and Policy Advisor for Urban Affairs and Economic Mobility at the White House Domestic Policy Council. John also has local experience working as a transportation planner for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) and geographic analyst for the Texas General Land Office.
“In my travels I have come to appreciate Austin’s unique character, the welcoming environment, and creative displays of intellectual honesty,” John says. “As one of the fastest growing cities in the country, much of the transportation infrastructure as currently built in our region has exceeded its capacity. Enhancing regional mobility as population growth continues is critical in order to maintain the vibrant quality of life Austin is known for. I look forward to working with Movability Austin in developing innovative workforce-based mobility solutions.”
John also walks the walk when it comes to alternative transportation (pun intended!) The D.C. area is known for its traffic gridlock, but it’s also got myriad mobility options that savvy travelers can use, something he enjoys doing.
