Ask any Austinite what they’re dissatisfied with in our fair city, and you’ll almost certainly hear, “Traffic.” For anyone who has business downtown, the next answer will probably be “Parking.”
With that in mind, the Downtown Austin Alliance has contracted with national consultant, Nelson\Nygaard, to conduct a comprehensive downtown parking study to determine just how much parking currently exists downtown and how it’s being used at key times throughout the day.
The initiative will produce a strategic implementation plan that will help manage and maximize the use of existing parking, as well as ensure we are planning appropriately for future parking needs.
The 10-month study will kick off on May 11 with a free community workshop. Input from the workshop will define parking challenges for downtown parking users such as office tenants, businesses, retailers, residents, and visitors; and will help inform the goals of the project.
