Bike Month is Here!

May is bike month, and a big part of that is Bike to Work Day on May 20.

This year’s Bike to Work Day will have a lot of fueling stations – we count more than 40 –  that will be offering free food and coffee for bike commuters!

If you’re new to riding your bike, fear not. Bike Austin has maps to help you plan a route that will allow you to hit fueling stations during your morning commute, and there will also be bike trains (group rides) for those who aren’t sure about riding alone.

Austin B-Cycle is also offering a special for those who don’t own a bike but want to try out Bike to Work Day: use code 2453 at any B-Cycle kiosk for a free 24-hour membership.

If you’re a veteran bike commuter, consider bringing a friend who’s new to bike commuting along for the day! In addition to the fueling stations, there’s a Bike Home From Work Day party at Hops and Grain.

Maybe you’re interested in biking more than occasionally to work – if that’s the case, there are plenty of ways to get involved in advocating for more bike infrastructure in Austin. Consider joining the Bicycle Advisory Council or Bike Austin. Bike Austin is one of the groups advocating for the City to fully fund the Bicycle Master Plan and Urban Trails, plans that would create hundreds of miles of protected bike and pedestrian lanes.
