How to Burn Cheap Gas and Look Good Doing It

Screen shot 2016-03-02 at 12.12.36 PMGas is really, really inexpensive right now, which has led drivers to throw frugality to the wind and stomp down on the gas pedal. This isn’t a new trend; every time gas prices spike, transit use does too, and when gas prices plummet, the roads get choked with drivers taking advantage of the low prices. We could point out that by driving more, drivers are wasting time (and therefore money). But since the trend never seems to change, we decided to go with a “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” attitude. So in the spirit of low gas prices, here are seven creative ways you can have fun burning all the gas you want (yes, we are being sarcastic.)

Create Your Own Traffic Calming: Tired of noisy and dangerous drivers zipping through your neighborhood? Try driving around really slowly, over and over, so that you block the road and force other cars to also slow down.

Quality Time: Want your kids to have the experience of walking to school, but hate leaving your car behind? Just follow them, at about 2 miles per hour, as they walk.

Save on Electricity Bills: Why charge your phone inside the house? Bring it out to your car, where you can idle in the driveway in the comfort of the air conditioning while it charges there.

Mail Call: Only hippies walk to the mailbox at the end of the driveway.

Bring Back the Ice Cream Truck: Why wait for summer? Why wait for a licensed vendor? Blast the AC and cruise around the neighborhood with your windows down and the music blaring, distributing sweets.

Go Shopping, in the Next County Need an extra egg or a cup of sugar? Forget borrowing from the neighbors – drive as far as you have to to find your pantry staples at the cheapest price.

Burn Gas to Get Gas When you’re ready to refill your gas guzzler, find the cheapest gas in town and drive as far as it takes to get the best price.
