Transport Yourself with Music

How do you find joy in your commute? Maybe you take a nap, catch up on news and articles, or just daydream. But for some commuters, it’s all about the tunes.

Carpoolers Caitlin and Kenzie’s daily commute is like a Thelma & Louise adventure with a top-notch soundtrack. They use the Carma app to pick up new friends while they rock out to their favorite bands. March was especially exciting for the music-loving pair; they used commute time to talk through their plan of attack for SXSW events, and explore the Spotify playlist of bands they planned to see.

Here are Caitlin and Kenzie’s commute playlist picks:

– “Sun Medallion” by King Tuff

– “Dearly Departed” by Shakey Graves

– “That’s Not My Name” by the Ting Tings

– “No Flex Zone” by Rae Sremmurd

– “Archie, Marry Me” by Alvvays

Jay’s train ride has a different vibe. After hopping on the MetroRail in north Austin, his first order of business is to catch up on The Daily Show and start his morning with a chuckle. When Jay listens to music, his playlist relies on classic artists like Bob Marley, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson.

If you’re feeling Jay’s jam, check out this unique Willie Nelson playlist. Many of Willie’s songs are about special cities and places, starting right in Austin with “Devil in a Sleepin’ Bag” and “Railroad Lady.” Follow along with the map below, and turn your commute into a cross-country road trip with Shotgun Willie.
