Folks who live and do business in Texas have been thinking big about transit possibilities lately. Earlier this month the idea of an Austin subway came up, and Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced on Jan. 15 that he will build a test hyperloop transit system in Texas.
While it remains to be seen whether those ideas will come to fruition, there’s one future transit project that is definitely taking shape: a larger, permanent downtown MetroRail station is in the planning stages.
Using money from a $50 million Texas Transportation Committee grant awarded to Capital Metro last year, the agency will construct a downtown station that will included three tracks and two platforms capable of accommodating future expansions.
The Project Connect partners held a public workshop on Jan. 31 that included a walking tour of the station and an interactive meeting designed to gather public input, as well as an online workshop on Feb. 4. Want to give your input? Learn more about how you can get involved here.
