The best way to avoid parking hassles is to avoid having to park at all: transit, biking, carsharing, and carpooling are all ways to get around parking spot headaches.

But for times when you do need to drive, it would be pretty nice to have a spot waiting for you at your destination, wouldn’t it? That’s just what Parking Panda, a parking spot reservation app that launched in Austin this month, promises. Parking Panda, which is based in Baltimore, is also starting service in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, and Fort Worth.

Here’s how it works: you download the free app, and it will show you available parking spots and their prices. You then reserve a spot with the right price and location, and Parking Panda sends a confirmation email. Even if the parking lot or garage sells out, your space is reserved. Prices are the same they would be if you drove up to a garage – Parking Panda gets its revenue from a cut of what the garage makes.

Parking Panda users can also use the app’s filter to find daily, weekly, or monthly parking. The company is offering a promotion for people trying it out for the first time: use the promo code MOVABILITY15 to get 15 percent off your first reservation.
