HNTB’s Commute Smackdown

This spring, downtown engineering and architecture firm HNTB decided to encourage use of transportation options in a fun and competitive way: they played a game. The company-wide Commute Smackdown contest awarded points for a wide variety of commuting-related tasks, encouraging participants to take incremental steps towards changing their behavior.

Some tasks were simple, like locating the nearest bus stop or asking around the office for carpool buddies. Others were a little bigger, like riding a bike to work five days a week. Points were awarded based on the difficulty of the task.

HNTB celebrated the game participants and winners by awarding prizes at an Emmy-style award ceremony during a recent company lunch.

The 2014 HNTB Smackdown Award winners are:

 Carpool Champ: Jarrod Choate

Blue-Ribbon Biker: Ashley Sullivan

Top-Notch Train Rider: Jay LeChien

Boss of the Bus & 2014 Overall Winner: Luke Urie
