Austin’s New Business Bus

There’s a lot of business travel between Austin and Dallas, and a lot of grumbling about it too. It’s a long enough distance that a drive eats up valuable time, plus makes for one more car congesting already-congested cities. Flying isn’t any faster.Screen shot 2014-05-12 at 1.04.07 PM

So a new bus service, aimed at business travelers, is generating a lot of excitement. Vonlane operates full-size buses that seat 16 people – the seats will be like a first-class airline seat, only without the airline. That’s 16 cars that won’t be jostling for space on I-35.

The new bus, which launches this month, will leave from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Austin, which means you can ride a B-Cycle bike right to the bus!

It’s a good idea, but I’d have to drive to the Hyatt. Where would I park, and how much would parking cost? There should be some free Park ‘n Ride lots off I 35 where commuters could catch a bus or a carpool into downtown and catch a bus to Dallas. There are Park ‘n Ride lots along I-95 on the East coast to alleviate tbe number of cars in the cities.
16 seats is so few. Hope they’ve done their market studies. How many buses and how many times per day will the buses run?
