Dear Tabby: Your Commuting Questions Answered

Dear Tabby,

I’d like to start using a bike to get around town a little more when I’m only going short distances. But, I need a bike, and I don’t want to spend a fortune. Where could I find one that doesn’t cost a ton of money, and what features if any make for a good commuting bike?

Bike-CommutingDear B.B.,

There are some gorgeous commuter bikes out there, but you don’t have to shell out a fortune. Look for a bike with fairly thin tires, not knobby like a mountain bike. You’ll also want a bike with at least seven gears.

If you’re willing to do some hunting, call around to see if any bike shops sell used bikes, and ask about their commuter bike selection. Or, you can look at a marketplace like Craigslist. Get a clunker with the above-mentioned features and get it all nice and tuned up professionally. For more information on bikes to use as well as bike commuting, click here.

Happy bike hunting!
