Austin B-cycle is proving “if you build it, they will come.” Austin smashed bikeshare records for daily usage during the week of SXSW. On March 15th we saw an average of 10.1 checkouts per bike/day, besting the previous record in September 2013 of 7.2 checkouts per bike/day set by the successful New York City Citi Bike program. Austin B-cycle was one of the big transportation success stories with more than 17,000 checkouts during SXSW March 7-16.
“It’s clear that SXSW attendees love Austin B-cycle,” said Austin B-cycle Executive Director Elliott McFadden. “When SXSW Interactive, Film, and Music badge holders needed to hop from venue to venue, they walked or chose Austin B-cycle. That was great for everyone downtown.”
