Inspiring Social Media

Afbeelding-64-603x164Boulder-based People for Bikes recently put together the first comprehensive list we’ve seen of Austin’s Best Bike Blogs and Media.

The list includes all the regulars like Social Cycling Austin, Bike Austin, Austin Cycling Association, but it also highlights some that most people would never see otherwise.  Here are just a few to whet your appetite:

Inspiration and humor: Cycling Austin

This group’s website has a good list of upcoming rides and races, and its Facebook page specializes in funny and upbeat bike photos. They’re on Twitter, too, but Facebook is where the action is.

aboutphotoGreat bike photos: Prolly is not Probably

John Watson relocated from NYC to Austin in 2011 and brought his photo-centric site about bike equipment and events with him. He also sometimes posts about metal (the music, not the frame building material). See also Facebook and Twitter.

Bike policy with a geeky twist: Greg Griffin

Our favorite Austin-based bike tweeter is a transportation academic and planner with a yen for bike sharing and other gadget-ish transportation solutions.

Water cooler: Bicycle Austin

A longtime local web forum that usually has several active threads. This is a good place for bicyclists in Austin to ask each other practical questions.

Women on wheels: Austin Bike Chix534566_415077751879558_921687219_n

This is a great coordinating site for a social group of “fun females who like to ride bikes and help get others involved in bike riding!”
