Are you searching for the perfect gift for your mobility-minded loved ones or friends? Or is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to start using options and depend less on your car? We’ve compiled a list to help you shop for fun and useful gifts, or to get started using some of the great options available around Austin.

1) B-Cycle Membership

Austin is getting its very own bike share this month, and we think an annual membership would make a pretty swell gift. An $80 annual membership gets you 24 hour-per-day access to Austin’s bike share system, 365 days a year. Membership means you can skip the station kiosk and swipe your card right at the bike dock. Members can also use an online calorie counter!

2) Capital Metro Regional Transit Passes

For $64, you can ride the bus or take the RedLine all over town for a month! Or, for $20, do the same for a week. We’re willing to bet that’s way less money than you’d spend on gas in the same time frame.

3) eReader

One of the best things about riding a train or bus to work is that it gives you time to kick back and read. Give the literary commuter in your life an eReader like an iPad, Kindle, Kobo, or Nook to help their commuting time fly by!

4) Noise-canceling headphones

Sometimes it’s fun to chat with your neighbors on the bus or train, but sometimes you may just want to listen to music or a podcast. Headphones like these can deliver your tunes, or just tune out the people around you.

5) car2go Membership

car2go is a car sharing program that has a fleet of self-service, low-emission cars

distributed around Austin. It’s a great way to use a car for quick trips, without being tied to owning a vehicle. Members can use the cars for as long as they like, and don’t have to commit to returning a car to a specific location. A one-time $35 membership payment will get you started! Learn more about how to own one less vehicle, the many ways to love carsharing, and some basics about how car2go works.

6)  Reflective Gear for You & Your Bike

Lest you think safe bike riding has to equal a lack of fashion, check out the haute looks from Vespertine. The New York City company’s eco-chic reflective gear will make you want to ride your bike everywhere just to be seen! Cool reflective gear isn’t limited to just clothing – check out these sweet stickers from Ryde Safe in a rainbow of colors and shapes.

7) Little Lifter

This leather handle makes for a stylish and easy way to carry your bicycle around. It’s designed for commuters, so it’s small and light, and because it lowers the center of gravity it makes your bike feel light, too. At $36, it’s not a bad bargain, either.

8) Zipcar Membership

Another car sharing program, Zipcar allows you to reserve a car for a few hours, or a whole day. Once you’re done, you return the car to its reserved spot, and walk away without worrying about insurance, gas or daily mileage! There are a few plans available, including pay-as-you-go yearly and monthly, and prepaid, and they range from $60 per year to $50 per month.

9) Downtown Austin Map

A simple, but handy thing to have for all the walkers in your life. Whether you commute by foot or are trying to add some walking routes to your day, this is a good thing to have in your back pocket. You can find them at the Austin Visitor’s Bureau at 209 E. 6th Street.

10) Spokefly Membership

Curious about biking to work, but don’t own a bicycle? Or perhaps your living arrangements don’t leave you with any place to store a bike. Or maybe you just like riding different types of bikes (mountain, road, commuter, etc.)! Spokefly is an Austin-based company that allows you to rent various bikes from people all over Austin for a few hours at a time. Once you’re a member, you can reserve a bike online for whenever you need it. Easy as that!

11) ReeCharge Power Pack

This handy little power system attaches to your bike hub and uses the energy generated by the bike to power and USB-chargeable device. It’s also covered by a silicone case to keep it working, even if you’re riding in the rain.

12) Movability Austin Membership

Not to toot our own horn, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t remind you that Movability offers membership options for businesses, nonprofits, and individuals. Here’s some info about our membership options, all of which help you find commuter options!
