Get on Your Bikes! Getting to Downtown by Bicycle Safer & Easier!

Two great new bike lane projects are open and ready for you and your bike.

The first, phase I of the Pedernales Cycle Track is complete. Get on your bikesand ride on the new two-way track from East 6th Street to Webberville. Note: the southbound track is closed until the completion of Phase II. It may seem a bit of a short-track right now but once the entire track is complete, cyclists will be able to use this track to connect the Ann and Roy Butler Hike & Bike Trail from Lady Bird Lake to the Boggy Creek Trail through the Holly Neighborhood Greenway to the JJ Seabrook trail and Cherrywood, University Hills and Mueller neighborhoods.  For more information and updates, visit the City of Austin’s Pedernales Cycle Track Project.

The second project is on the South First Street bridge. Brand new bike lanes have been striped from Barton Springs to Cesar Chavez.  Passing long lines of cars will never have felt so good (and safe!) Let us know when you try either of these new bike lanes!

    Love it!

However, the new bike lanes on the S. 1st bridge have storm drains that span half of the lane in both directions. Haven’t had any problems yet as I have avoided them, but it looks like the openings in the storm drain grates could potentially pose crashing problems if tires hit them a certain way–especially road tires.

When you use the word “stripped” instead of “striped”, it gives the impression that lanes were removed, not added. Sure, context helps, but that’s no excuse for using the wrong word.
