Google Hangouts: An Essential Work from Home Tool

Google hangouts 1

The organizers of Work From Home Day (WFH) recently hosted a Google Hangout training. The training is the first event in a series of three that will culminate in the release of the WFH Day data at SXSW on March 10. The training, at the Google Austin office, showed participants how to make life easier with Hangouts.

What you need to know about Google Hangouts:

  • It’s FREE.
  • It’s easy. You’ll need a Google account (Gmail, Google +) and Chrome (Google’s browser) and that’s it. Within a few clicks you’ll be connecting with coworkers and ready to work.
  • You can start/participate in a Hangout on all types of devices: PC, MAC, iPhone, iPad, Android. This allows you to be fully mobile. You’ll never miss a meeting or let distance be a barrier for collaboration. You can share documents, screens, even watch YouTube together. Speaking of YouTube, Hangouts can be recorded for broadcast on YouTube if you want.
  • While working from, you can setup a Hangout and leave it on all day, just like if you were in the office!
