Get Onboard: Help Beta Test Capital Metro’s New App

Capital Metro is making it easier to ride transit with the launch of a free app. The app allows riders to avoid the lines at the ticket vending machines and eliminates the need for exact change or cash to purchase transit fares, essentially turning an Apple or Android smart mobile device into a transit pass.

“Capital Metro will be the first transit agency in the nation to offer this type of mobile payment and ticketing solution across both our bus and rail services,” says Capital Metro President/CEO Linda S. Watson.

This app was made possible by an innovative partnership between CapMetro and Bytemark. At no cost to CapMetro or its customers, you can now test drive this new technology. Since this is a pilot, there is a limited initial window for use. Riders can use the app to purchase fares Nov. 10-24.

App Features Include:

  • This means instead of searching for exact change, you can buy 1-day or 7-day passes for yourself and traveling companions from your iPhone or Android smartphone.
  • To use, you simply show your phone screen to the bus attendant.
  • Mobile also gives you direct access to trip planner, service alerts, maps, and schedules.

Editors Note: Word on the street is that people are requesting real-time info on when a bus will arrive. We wish we could announce that CapMetro was also beta testing real-time next bus info with this app, but we are pleased to see them getting their tech on.
