In case you haven’t been following the news, in just a couple of weeks an anticipated 120,000 people will flood into our city for the first Formula 1 United States Grand Prix event November 16 – 18. As they arrive, the airport will become increasingly busier starting as early as Saturday November 10 and there will be street closures downtown starting the following Wednesday for the accompanying Fan Fest and Experience Austin events. So what does this mean for Austinites?
This sudden influx of visitors translates into bad congestion (system overloads with traffic), but it also means lots of good congestion with increased business and money spent by people who want to enjoy Austin. Together, the good and bad mean that your day-to-day routine is likely to go out the window as downtown Austin’s population doubles for over a week and all the public transportation available is strained to accommodate the numbers.
